Fake Course WARNING!!
No doubt, if you’re thinking about starting a new career as a Locksmith you will have been searching online and may have seen a number of different ‘qualifications’ being offered by a variety of private companies, some offering their own meaningless certification and others offering City and Guilds. However, City and Guilds Locksmith Awards are not recognised qualifications within the Industry and are merely customised awards achieved in around 3-5 days.
The question is… Can an individual be introduced to a career, any career, in just 3-5 days, to then be classed as qualified, professional, trustworthy or skilled?
We’ll let you answer that one.
There is Good news for people wanting to become a Locksmith in 2021?
You can now achieve an official an recognised qualification in the Locksmith Industry thanks to the introduction of the Ofqual approved Level 3 Locksmith and Security Diplomas released at the beginning of 2020.
The introduction of the Level 3 Locksmith and Security Diplomas have raised the bar for locksmith training. As they are the only current qualifications to be Ofqual regulated, a National Standard has been created for the Industry with these two diplomas being the most advanced academic and vocational courses available. Now that students have the opportunity to become qualified in the field, becoming a Locksmith in 2020 is quickly being perceived as a very exciting career move for any individual.
Achieving a Diploma will ensure you are trusted within your community, having achieved a clear DBS check and the required knowledge and expertise needed for a successful career. You will also receive the valuable backing of Corgi Fenestration, giving you the ability to work on construction sites and expand your professional opportunities with zero restrictions to your career.
What makes the Level 3 Locksmith Diplomas different?
Not only are these THE ONLY Ofqual approved qualifications for Locksmiths, they are also the only courses taking 6-12 months to complete, putting the original 3-5-day courses into perspective.
With this extended time period, comes a greater level of learning, experience, skills and knowledge for the trade. This is a very big change for the industry and has provided locksmiths with the chance to gain an official locksmith qualification for the first time in history.
The two qualifications available give learners the opportunity to hone in on their preferred area of the industry, whether that be Commercial Property Security or Automotive Security. Your can read more about each course by following the links below.

Because these new courses are now regulated by Ofqual (The Government Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) certain criteria must be met by training centres including course being run by fully qualified teachers and the centre being re-classified as a college, because of this many of the training centres who didn’t meet the required standards continue to push their now obsolete 3/5 day locksmith training courses.
